Responsibility

We are committed to growing Capita in a transparent and responsible way.

Corporate responsibility means different things to different businesses. For us, corporate responsibility means acting responsibly in all that we do and adding value, not only in our commercial activities, but beyond these to support all our stakeholders, including the communities in which we work. Our responsible behaviours underpin our business, enhance our multiple relationships and further motivate our people. The result is a better and more sustainable business.

Corporate responsibility in action

Green Week

We take a proactive approach to good environmental management. One of the ways we engage our employees is through our Green Week - our biggest annual environmental awareness week. The week is all about raising awareness of our impact as a business, as well as providing an opportunity to share ideas on how our employees can reduce their environmental impact as individuals. This Green Week, we asked colleagues to share their Green Week pledges and how they were committed to a positive environmental action.

Alzheimer’s Society

Our two-year corporate charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society began in Spring 2017 and we’ve been working closely with the Society to outline our key partnership objectives, supporting their work in uniting against dementia.

These include: working to make 50% of our employee base Dementia Friends, supporting innovation in dementia research and initiatives, raising £500k over the course of the two-year partnership and becoming a dementia-friendly business

Dementia Friends

As part of our charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, we are committed to making 50% of our employees Dementia Friends. The Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. A Dementia Friend is someone that has a greater understanding of dementia, and how the condition can affect a person’s day to day life, and what they can do to support someone with dementia.

Employee volunteering

Teams in our Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) business used their Capita Volunteering day to support a local Manchester charity, Manchester Young Lives. The charity has been working with children and young people in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Manchester for over 40 years.

The team volunteered at their Moss Side Centre, revamping both the indoor and outdoor spaces with redecorating and gardening.

Payroll Giving Quality Mark

Capita has received the silver Payroll Giving Quality Mark for our Payroll Giving scheme. The Payroll Giving Quality Mark is a benchmarking system that recognises when an employer offers the scheme and highlights the businesses operating exceptional schemes. Demonstrating our commitment to corporate responsibility, we have been awarded the silver mark as more than 5% of our employees give to charity via their payroll. Thanks to our employees’ generosity, a variety of brilliant charities and causes are supported each month.
