Step Up charity challenge
Our two step challenges, in 2016 and 2017, have raised over £91,000 for The Prince’s Trust.
An incredible 386 teams took part – with 2,300 Capita employees all stepping to cover a virtual route. The aim of both challenges has been to raise the fitness levels of our employees while having fun and raising much needed funds for our corporate charity partner.
2016’s Step Challenge involved teams completing a virtual walk from The Prince’s Trust Southampton Centre to visit neighbouring centres across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, finishing in their most northern centre in Dundee. This year, the four-week challenge evolved into Step Up 2017. According to the NHS, as part of a healthy lifestyle we should all aim to take 10,000 steps a day, however most of us only manage 3,000 - 4,000.
Through this challenge we encouraged each team member to incorporate more steps into their day, walking to work or up the stairs and reach the 10,000 target.
Step Up 2017’s virtual route was updated to cover the miles between Capita offices across the UK; from London, to Cardiff, to Belfast and finishing in Stirling. The route was approximately 630 miles and roughly 1,260,000 steps.
This year we also gave employees the chance to earn bonus steps from a quiz round and at each 200-mile mark. In addition, teams that completed the UK route could then progress on to an international route, plotted out between Capita offices in Germany. A fantastic 128 teams finished the UK route and progressed to earn extra international steps.
Prizes were awarded to the teams with the best team name, photo, first team to reach Stirling, most miles covered and highest fundraising amount.
The Prince’s Trust is absolutely delighted by the continued support of Capita employees, who have once again gone the extra mile by taking part in the Capita Step Challenge. Every day thousands of young people come to us for help – thanks to your support we are helping to change lives and futures across the UK. £91,000 is an incredible achievement and once again sees Capita exceed all expectations! On behalf of The Prince’s Trust, we want to say a massive thank you!
