Million Makers

As part of our corporate charity partnership with The Prince's Trust, we supported their 2015-16 entrepreneurial fundraising challenge, Million Makers. This year, the teams taking part (including four Capita teams) raised an incredible total of £1,154,256, exceeding the target to raise £1 million nationally.

The Million Makers challenge sees teams from various companies try and turn an initial investment of £1,500 into £10,000 in six months, with all proceeds going to The Trust.  Money raised helps support disadvantaged young people in the UK to turn their lives around. Three in four young people supported by The Prince’s Trust move into work, education or training.

We are thrilled to support this year’s Million Makers competition and it is great news that it has been such a success. Capita’s partnership with the Trust has already seen us raise over half a million pounds – and we look forward to working with them in the future. Congratulations to all the Million Makers finalists – and I’d like to personally thank Capita’s Million Makers teams across the UK for their work over the last six months.

Chief Executive at Capita

As well as sponsoring the competition, we also championed the benefits of Million Makers to our employees by entering four Capita teams into the competition. Altogether our four teams raised an incredible £85,160.53!

Rich McAlpin, part of one Capita team, proudly accepted the ‘New Kid on the Block Award’ on behalf of his team 'Team Capitalise', as well as receiving an 'Outstanding Individuals' award along with Gideon Shapiro from ‘Team Gradiators’.

The teams from our Lead The Way graduate scheme were mentored by Paul Dawson, business director of Capita Parking Services and TfL, and James Parkhouse, managing director of Capita Travel and Events.

At Capita we recognise the importance of developing our employees by investing in their skills. By participating in challenges such as Million Makers, we encouraged our employees to be innovative and challenged them to further develop their skills in project management, leadership, teamwork, and communication.

We have been blown away by the enthusiasm and sheer determination of the teams taking part in Million Makers this year. Between them they’ve smashed the million pound fundraising target and their success just goes to show what can be achieved through great teamwork and a bit of entrepreneurial spirit.
