Platanos College career insights day

As part of our work with Lambeth Council, we have pledged to help young people through our ‘Community Development Foundation’. On 11th December 2015 and 22nd March 2016, we held career insight days for students of Platanos College to help guide them in their future career choices.

Year 9 students from Platanos College in Stockwell, London are tasked with deciding what GCSE subjects they might choose. In the face of this important decision, we held our career insight days aimed at helping the students gain visibility about the variety of different careers and career paths available to them, to get them thinking about their own career paths and illustrate the link between the GCSE subjects they might choose to the careers they may go into.

I now have a clearer understanding of what options I have for GCSEs and jobs.

It has been an amazing opportunity to listen to this advice and I feel like I have grown into a wiser girl.

A total of 22 students attended our career insight days, and heard from 16 Capita employees about their individual journeys through from education into work. Talks were given by graduates, apprentices, and a mixture of junior to senior level employees, including executives, managers and directors.

Talks covered areas such as PR, marketing, bidding, sales, people development, transformation, design, project management, IT, finance, and more, with some employees sharing an experience of taking the ‘traditional’ route through education, and others not.

Both days were a huge success, with 100% students saying they find the day helpful and would recommend it to others.

We have worked with Platanos College for the last 3 years as part of the Business Class programme. This is a long term partnership, where we plan a series of events throughout the year that helps not just the pupils but also the teachers meet their objectives.
