The conference app, Capita Engage Events, was also available for delegates to download ahead of the event onto their own device if preferred. This allowed attendees to view the agenda, follow the Twitter stream and more.
The LGA’s annual conference is the biggest event in the local government calendar, attracting over 1,200 delegates across three days. Roughly 42% of all delegates who attended the conference used the Capita Engage Events app, with 18% of these accessing the app from an Android device and 82% from an iOS device (including the iPads we loaned out).
The event was a real success and delegates on Twitter agreed that the iPad borrowing scheme was innovative and original:
Cllr Peter Fleming, Chairman of the Local Government Associations Improvement and Innovation Board, said: “Many thanks to Capita for loaning out iPads across the three day event. The uptake was great and we could see many delegates wandering between the exhibition area and conference area using their iPads to find out which seminar they should go to next, to get involved with social media at the conference and to read more about the LGA innovation zone, and more.
“The introduction of the iPads at this year’s conference, combined with the promotion of the conference app for delegates to download to their own devices, really contributed to the two-way communication we were hoping for at this year’s conference, and we saw #LGAconf13 trend on Twitter across the event.
“The Capita Engage Events app proved popular and the feedback throughout the conference was very positive, with many delegates commenting on the look and feel of the app as well as the ease of navigation. So a big thank you to the Capita team for pulling this all together so seamlessly.”
