The new contract will run until October 2019.
Capita partnered with Rossendale Council in October 2006 to improve its delivery of housing and council tax benefits, collection of local taxes and management of council-related queries, through a new centralised switchboard and out-of-hours emergency service.
Following the extension of the contract, all office-hours enquiries to the Council will be handled by a call centre in Rossendale. This will bring new work to the borough and drive forward economic growth.
The new contract will bring savings of £1.2m to the Council over the next four years through service improvements and efficiencies. It will also generate £160,000 through single person discount reviews and the New Homes Bonus, bringing value to tax payers and reducing fraud and the number of long-term vacant properties in the Borough.
