Rossendale Borough Council extends contract with Capita

Rossendale Borough Council has announced that it is extending its contract with Capita for the delivery of its revenue, benefits and customer contact services for three more years.

The new contract will run until October 2019.

Capita partnered with Rossendale Council in October 2006 to improve its delivery of housing and council tax benefits, collection of local taxes and management of council-related queries, through a new centralised switchboard and out-of-hours emergency service.

Following the extension of the contract, all office-hours enquiries to the Council will be handled by a call centre in Rossendale. This will bring new work to the borough and drive forward economic growth.

The new contract will bring savings of £1.2m to the Council over the next four years through service improvements and efficiencies. It will also generate £160,000 through single person discount reviews and the New Homes Bonus, bringing value to tax payers and reducing fraud and the number of long-term vacant properties in the Borough.

Cllr Barbara Ashworth, portfolio holder for customer services at Rossendale Borough Council, said: “Capita has consistently delivered for the Borough since 2006 and we are therefore very pleased to be extending our partnership. We look forward to them helping us to further improve standards for residents, deliver more customer focused services and provide better value for money for council tax payers.”

Mark Chapman, business director, Capita Local Government, said: “This contract extension demonstrates the excellent partnership we have enjoyed with Rossendale Borough Council over the last decade. We look forward to working with the Council for another four years and hopefully long into the future.”
