BFRS’s 400 firefighters operate from 20 strategically-placed fire stations. In addition, more than 100 people work in a variety of support services including IT functions, vehicle workshops, finance, human resources and corporate planning. The implementation will transfer all 20 sites to a Skype for Business solution, which allows staff to work more effectively and provide an improved service for citizens. The unified solution will also provide BFRS with significant savings in telephony costs.
Since 2012 Updata has been responsible for providing the BFRS Wide Area Network (WAN). When BFRS reviewed their telephony strategy, Updata proposed an enterprise voice solution based on Skype for Business. The award of the contract marks a strengthening of the productive long-term relationship between Updata and BFRS.
Dave Thexton, ICT Manager at Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Transforming our telephony infrastructure means each station will have access to a modern telephony system enabling the staff to work more effectively and deliver better quality services to local citizens.
“Choosing Updata is a reflection of the confidence we have in it as a trusted partner. This innovative solution based on Microsoft technology will enable us to both achieve cost savings and improve efficiencies.”
