Building back better through inspiring placemaking
The Coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we use the places around us and is likely to transform what we want from them in the future.
The Government is keen to “build back better” and kick-start the economy, but the challenge is how to do that in a way that adapts to the huge changes we’re seeing in how people work, shop and spend their leisure time.
Creating inspiring places is called placemaking and it strengthens people’s connection to where they live. Without effective placemaking, an area can suffer; empty buildings, poor lighting, a lack of green spaces and poor facilities can bring it down and cause crime rates to soar. This affects the local economy as visitors stay away and businesses choose to open elsewhere.
We’re proud to be helping local authorities to use effective placemaking to create places to be proud of.

Building strong communities by providing inspiring places
Great placemaking underpins great communities and drives successful local economies. Yet, creating public places, green spaces, buildings and facilities that help local people and businesses to thrive doesn’t happen by accident. Place makers lay the foundations, by defining and delivering projects that provide great homes, vibrant town centres and connected communities.
At Capita, we support local authorities in creating places where people want to live, work and visit. We help to provide homes, local amenities and recreational facilities, as well as attractive green spaces for the community to enjoy. This helps to boost the economy and provide places to be proud of.
