We value difference. Difference of opinion, of culture and background. Difference in the way we look, the way we feel and the challenges we face.

By creating a culture of openness where every person is welcomed and every voice can be heard, we see difference as an opportunity - to learn from each other, to see things from another point of view and make meaningful changes by bringing our voices together.

That’s why we’re committed to creating a diverse, inclusive environment where everyone can bring their whole selves to work, and feel welcomed, respected and valued for who they are.

It starts with ensuring that the way we recruit is responsible, fair, unbiased and open to all. We’ve launched a number of initiatives to help people who face challenges with employment, and we’re supporting wellbeing and development with a range of mentoring programmes and our employee network groups.

Empowering our people

Our mentoring schemes to support our people to develop their career include:

  • RISE (Reduce Inequality Strive for Equality), a leadership programme for Black, Asian and minority ethnic employees, as well as female employees, which aims to reduce the representation gap across the business
  • our mutual mentoring scheme which pairs junior colleagues from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background with senior leaders to enable them to learn from one another
  • the Moving Ahead mentorship programme, provided by our partners The 30% Club, which is aimed at increasing women’s representation at board and senior levels within the organisation.

Socially responsible resourcing

We know we have a responsibility to help people facing challenges when searching for a job, which is why our socially responsible resourcing & development initiatives are focused on offering greater and better opportunities to disadvantaged and under-represented groups.

We're also a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) which means we offer a fully inclusive, flexible and accessible recruitment process. We actively seek to attract and recruit disabled people, making reasonable adjustments wherever they are needed and supporting the initiative to offer an interview for disabled candidates who meet the minimum requirements of an advertised role.

Our current programmes are listed below - toggle the + sign to learn more about each initiative.

We’ve joined the 10,000 Black Interns programme, offering paid work experience to young Black people in the UK.

We offer short term work placements for people leaving prison through our Compass programme to give them the chance to gain valuable skills with real work experience while being paid.

We’ve partnered with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to help people who receive unemployment benefits to apply for jobs, and as part of this we guarantee them an interview with Capita.

Through this partnership we’re supporting pupils from low socio-economic backgrounds, who are/may be permanently excluded from school or who are at risk of entering the justice system. Together, we’re offering work experience sessions with volunteers from across Capita to explore different ways into employment, career journeys, CV-writing, looking after your wellbeing and more.

This offers a number of refugee groups, with different language and skills levels, a chance to access our virtual hub in their local language, find a work placement or business mentor opportunity.

    Our diversity and inclusion hub

Our people are actively involved in how we shape the future of Capita. Our employee network groups play a huge part in this – offering a place for everyone to ask questions, explore new ideas and share experiences. They help us to create a culture of openness and trust, where every voice feels heard, every person feels seen and valued. It doesn’t stop there though.

We’ve created an online content hub for our people – a place to share knowledge, experiences and educational content – so that we can drive allyship across our business and bring together our voices to enact real change. We call it CHOIR and when you join us you’ll be part of it too.

    Employee network groups

We have eight networks covering all aspects of diversity and inclusion. Each group is led by a chair and co-chair who have been voted into their roles, and is supported by an Executive Committee Sponsor.
