We’re one of the largest IT organisations in the UK, helping organisations to get the most out of technology and software, as well as working with our own teams here at Capita.

We support and advise businesses as they invest in the right technology and software solutions, standardise their platforms and processes, and scale solutions:

  • we’ve installed more than 1,645 Wi-Fi access points at a Premiership football stadium in London
  • we’re keeping Scotland’s public services connected, from the Highlands to the islands
  • we’re creating robots, chatbots and using AI to make life simpler
  • and we’re designing modern, digital solutions to address the real business challenges of today.

…and that’s just how we’re supporting our external clients.

Internally, we have a large, global and dedicated team who support all aspects of our IT operations, from service desk to cyber security.

Typical roles

Here are a few of the typical roles you can find in technology and software across Capita:

In one of these roles, you’ll be part of our data science teams. They work within multi-disciplined delivery teams to assist blue-chip clients with any information management challenges they have and to help uncover insights within their data. You’ll work closely with clients to understand the real needs of their work and to ensure you can deliver on their commercial objectives.

These roles help our customers and partners to understand and make the most of AI and automation. You’ll combine your expertise in technology and content offerings, with your understanding of customer profiles and target markets. You’ll be flexible and hands-on, in a role where you’re either a subject matter expert or on your way to becoming one. You’ll understand how clients can address customer challenges and integrate with existing IT systems and applications. This might include overseeing the initial infrastructure setup for development, test and production environments, or exploring the server deployment options. The work you do will be pivotal as we explore the new capabilities of AI and shape the future of automation within our business and beyond.

Our cloud engineers are responsible for the design, execution and hands-on delivery of cloud solutions. We work with Azure and AWS and with customers at all skill levels to identify and take advantage of the benefits of public cloud. In this role, you’ll be articulating long-term roadmaps, risks and opportunities, and developing cost estimates for cloud transformation, including cloud consumption, delivery effort, and service charges.

These roles are helping to build a strong innovative development culture across the entire division. Using Low Code No Code Serverless techniques, you’ll define and implement development methodologies. You’ll create a fail-fast validated learning approach to enable us to release quarterly products and introduce data-based metrics to enable us to show the success and impact of developments. Everything we do will be based on best practice at each stage of the product development lifecycle. You’ll also foster rapid innovation with the likes of Design Sprints and other frameworks. Overall, your role will help to grow, create both incremental and greenfield propositions and keep our customers with us for longer.

As the first point of contact for our customers, you’ll be there to deal with technical queries and provide the best customer service and value to our end users. That means offering 1st Line diagnosis and resolution, maintaining a high-level 1st time fix rate, and logging and processing all incidents and service requests from customers.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining and supporting our hosting platforms, and assisting multiple clients. These are 3rd line roles which act as an escalation point for 1st and 2nd line support. You’ll be experienced in virtualisation technologies, Microsoft operating systems, Active Directory and infrastructure hardware. And you’ll support the use of Windows Server and associated virtualised platforms including hosted, distributed and cloud infrastructure (OS).

We have teams of architects supporting a variety of technical specialisms. They use their expertise to define, design and deliver innovative, effective and secure technical solutions for our clients and their customers. The team includes solutions architects focused on designing solutions using cloud technologies, Low Code / No Code and automation. We have technical architects producing high and low-level designs for infrastructure projects including data centre moves, migrations, and desktop transformations. And there are information security architects leading and coaching on the definition of security architecture, including the development and implementation of effective security administration processes.

Our information security teams work across Capita to mitigate risk and as a team support a robust programme of security information assurance activities. They’re the ones ensuring that issues are identified, reported, addressed/escalated, or accepted as appropriate. The team are responsible for security auditing and compliance duties across Capita, assisting in ISO 27001, PCI DSS and client security audits. They work closely with our different divisional operations teams to add value, provide training to the business, and maintain certifications, accreditations, regulatory needs, security policy management, security awareness and risk management.

Our analysts, officers and managers work at different levels of the organisation to develop and implement consistent security standards, procedures, and guidelines for multiple platforms and diverse system environments, facilitating system access, operation, and maintenance. They provide technical expertise to a variety of stakeholders.

Our senior cyber security consultants are responsible for gap analysis, implementation, and auditing customer process. They provide detailed findings and propose the actions we need to take to increase a customer's security posture. Our cyber security analyst roles sit within our information security team. They’re the ones that protect our customer business risks (including people, process & technology) from a range of criminal activity. In this role, you’ll provide oversight and reports on the monitoring of networks and systems, detect security threats ('events'), analyse and assess alarms, and report on threats, intrusion attempts and false alarms, either resolving them or escalating them, depending on the severity. Join us as a cyber security architect and you’ll be responsible for driving business focused security by design (including privacy controls). It will be up to you develop and/or review business solutions and ensure that they align to the contract requirements to mitigate any identified risks, conform to relevant security policies and balance information risk against the cost of countermeasures. You’ll then integrate any of the security requirements of changes into the business.

The IT asset management team guide and lead on best practise across Capita internally and for our external clients.

Our product owners are experts on a specific digital product set and are there to assist with the implementation of these products within a customer solution. They support the product management team day-to-day, with advice and problem solutions for customers and they help the desk staff with implementation, customisation, queries, and product issues. There are other varied responsibilities, including managing the product development backlog, releasing content, and delivery for selected products. In this role, you’ll need a good understanding of working with behaviour driven development (BDD) and Agile methodologies.
