Capita Fire & Rescue (CFR) Area Managers contribute to the protection of people, assets and maintaining the military output as well as making communities we operate in safer. We act as a Subject Matter Expert for the Heads of Establishment across all three military services in matters pertaining to Fire Prevention, Protection and Response. You will have direct line management responsibility for Group and Station Managers within your area of responsibility

This is a key role within CFR and we are looking for experienced fire and rescue professionals with a proven track record in leading teams through periods of change, whilst ensuring operational capability is maintained.

This is a full time permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week. This is a homebased role with travel to sites.

Job Description

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensuring Operational capability is maintained and providing clear direction and leadership across the region
  • Ensuring the stations within your administrative area of responsibility are compliant with all Legislation, Procedures, Regulations and Guidance related to the delivery of an effective fire and rescue service
  • Identifying any areas for improvement/corrective actions through the relevant Audit regimes are effectively managed to completion in a timely manner
  • Having direct line management responsibility and engaging with multiple stakeholders to ensure effective decisions are made at all levels and that resourcing, audit and operational requirements are met
  • Delivering and leading on CFR strategic and organisational objectives.
  • Monitoring, managing and reporting on performance within your area of responsibility.
  • Obtaining and analysing information to make critical decisions and effective resolution to emerging issues, escalating in a timely manner when outside of delegated authority.
  • Representing CFR at multi stakeholder meetings

Essential qualifications/skills/experience

  • Experience of operating in the role of substantive Group Manager or equivalent for a minimum of two years within a Fire and Rescue Service
  • Evidence of appropriate operational and Incident Command experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of Prevention and Protection and risk management and reduction
  • A sound understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS) and Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP). 
  • Evidence, knowledge and understanding of National Operational Guidance.

The assessment process will take place in late August/Early September, which will be held at the Fire Service College, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire.
