A Junior Network Deployment Engineer is responsible for assisting in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer network systems

Job Description

The Junior Network Engineer Determines and supports Internet working service requirements for switched networks; implements network systems and subsystems and associated hardware and software.

Key Performance Areas:

  • 24 x 7 support for network infrastructure
  • Implementing & Management of Local Area network (LAN).
  • implementation & Management of Wide Area network (WAN).
  • Proactive monitoring & management of Network infrastructure.
  • Ensure Network uptime.
  • Respond to logged incidents and requests
  • Implementation of changes as per change management policy.
  • Liaison with 3rd party service centre and engineers as required
  • Provide support for service backups
  • Take part in the test data restore procedure
  • Monitor success rates and implement workarounds/re-runs as required
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Testing as directed by the DR Coordinator
  • Systems Performance tuning as required
  • Provide backup support for the network team members.
  • Create and provide input to the following reports:
  • Daily, Weekly & Monthly uptime reports.
  • Capacity management reports and other team activity reports as requested by the Team Leader

Implementation & Management of Network & Security infrastructure.

  • Responsible for Network fault diagnosis
  • Ability to Manage the LAN Network using the latest Network devices Cisco 9500, 9200, 2960-X switches.
  • Configuration & management of LAN Network using STP & Security protocols

Suggested Targets

  • Accurate diagnosis of faults using appropriate toolsets and techniques
  • Prompt resolution of Network faults to agreed SLA’s
  • Adherence to agreed escalation processes
  • Share knowledge to the benefit of both the team & the service

Hardware & Software Maintenance

  • To assist with periodic reviews of all network operating systems in order to ensure they fall in line with recommended vendor requirements.

  • Recommend and implement appropriate actions.

Project Work

  • Contribute to Network elements of infrastructure projects
  • Implementation of Local Area Network (LAN) & Wide Area Network (WAN)
  • Implementation of Firewalls.
  • Setup of new office Network / Setup of new floor Network in existing office.

  • Validation of network requirements
  • Agreement of required tasks and timelines
  • Delivery of tasks in agreed timelines
  • Implementation & configuration of Network devices.

Technical Documentation

  • Develop and maintain Network operations documentation to a quality standard.
  • Maintain the site wise Network documentation.
  • Maintain the Network inventory.

  • Production of documentation, evidence of adherence to standards and approval of documentation.

Professional Know-How:-

Minimum Qualification:

  • Matric
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification

Minimum Experience: 

  • Must reside in Cape Town
  • 2 - 3 years of enterprise network administration - Essential
  • CCNA, CCNP certification - preferred
  • Routing, Switching and Firewall experience.
  • Firewall Knowledge - advantageous.
