Environmental health

Today’s citizens expect modern and accessible services, such as the ability to report issues 24/7 online, monitoring progress and providing feedback. At the same time, the UK population is increasing, space is at a premium and, as residents and business live and operate in closer proximity, it's likely to cause a rise in health, safety and welfare complaints being reported to the local authority.

Our environmental health services cover a whole range of issues to help keep your residents safe and include: food safety, health and safety, animal health, pollution, housing standards and port health.

Trading standards

Our trading standards team is providing consumer protection for residents through our services to local authorities and ensuring that consumer law is enforced.

We also work with local businesses through giving advice on the law and how it applies to them, as well as helping consumers by providing information leaflets, press releases and talks to community groups.

We have previously been successful in tackling rogue landlords, managed an operation to eradicate fake phone charges within the North East and combated rogue traders across London.

The services we provide to local councils include: fair trading, safety of consumer products, product counterfeiting, underage sales of age restricted goods, consumer credit, doorstep and internet crime, explosives storage and weights and measures (including certification of public weighbridge operators).

Licensing

From permits for gaming machines in members’ clubs, to licences for street traders, taxi drivers and for the provision of late-night refreshments, Capita can process and manage all your licencing applications so you can focus on your core operations.

We can issue and renew licences, permits and registrations and will monitor and inspect licensed premises to ensure compliance with legislation. The team will also manage continued compliance of the licence once it has been approved.

Local land charges

Already working with a number of local authorities, including our five councils partnership, we carry out land charging schemes to help digitise processes, providing an easier service for home-buyers, solicitors, conveyancers and anyone else with an interest in land or property.

We provide one of the fastest turnaround times for local land charge searches – between three to eight days – with accurate and reliable results to help maximise revenue within your organisation, as well as improving customer satisfaction.
