Opportunities in engineering and the built environment

Where could you join us?

Traffic and transportation design

We keep everyone moving right across the UK. Our extensive network of qualified and experienced in-house engineers and construction professionals are designing, constructing and supervising highways projects of all shapes and sizes.

Our highly skilled highways team works with local authorities on projects ranging from major junction improvements, new roads and bridges; to smaller developments such as traffic calming, road safety schemes and pedestrian and cycle schemes. In North Tyneside alone, we look after 826km of road, 1,700km of footpaths, 33,000 gullies and over 100 bridges.

We’re also providing street lighting to local highway authorities, university campuses, hospitals, parks and schools; saving them money and energy while improving community safety. You’ll help to keep the country connected and have a real impact on the future of our nation.

Planning

Our team of planners is helping communities to decide on the best way to use land and buildings, and make places work for everyone. We do this by supporting local authorities to become more resilient and better resourced for the future. Our work involves the full development management process, including validation, application, appeals and enforcement queries.

We help local authorities so that they can focus on what matters the most: shaping the places we live, work and play in. There’s a really large team here, from a variety of backgrounds, and we work with a huge number of clients, so there’s a lot of variety in what we do. You could be helping families to build their dream extension or your work might involve creating open spaces or new play parks.

You’ll be making a significant difference to communities, making areas safer and improving amenities for everyone who uses them.

Building control

Our building control teams are helping to create safer built environments for communities and safeguarding people’s health and welfare. We ensure that buildings are designed and built in accordance with building regulations, legislation and guidance.

We’re part of the National Local Authority Building Control service, working closely with the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. Collectively, they recognise the role we play in supporting local authorities and this allows us to access benefits associated with government funding and LABC training.

We’re involved in a wide range of work including domestic and commercial site inspections, design appraisals, structural and fire engineering appraisals, and offering sustainability advice. In short we play an important role in looking after public safety and security. You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects, to grow your career and build your CV, all with the security of working for one employer.
