We value the unique experiences and insights ex-service personnel bring to our business. As part of our team, your military expertise can allow us to gain a real understanding of the defence sector, and build new, improved solutions tailored for the Armed Forces.

We know working in the military offers a variety of transferable skills, all of which are perfectly suited for a wide variety of roles within our business. You could join us in areas such as engineering, facilities management, project management, cyber security, IT development, or networking and infrastructure. You could also use your experience to progress into team leadership or a management position.

Whatever your area of expertise, we’ll encourage and support you to make the best use of all your skills and experiences, and use your unique perspective to help shape the future of our business.

How we support military service leavers

Dedicated community space

With our ex-military community, we aim to develop a safe space for ex-military personnel where they can share their knowledge, support one another and raise awareness about their experiences within the wider business.

Transition support

We actively promote the recruitment of reservists and ex-service personnel within local Capita businesses, and support them throughout the transition to living and working as a civilian.

Flexibility

We always try to offer flexibility for our Service partners before, during and after their deployment, and aim to support them – as well as Veterans and their spouses and families – with employment in areas of our business where there is a strong Service focus, or areas located near active MoD sites.

Fundraising and awareness

We champion fundraising efforts for Armed Forces charities and encourage all Capita colleagues to take part in annual awareness days such as Remembrance Day and Armed Forces Day.

Paid special leave

For any of our colleagues who choose to be part of the Volunteer Reservist Forces (VRF), we support them by offering up to ten days of paid special leave each year, so that they have all the time they need to train for their Armed Forces commitments.

Recruiting Partnering Project (RPP)

We’re proudly supporting the British Army to attract, source and select both Regular and Reserve officers and soldiers. Our Recruiting Partnering Project team is made up of both Capita and military colleagues with a wide range of expertise and experience.

Together, we’re guiding and supporting people who want to join the Army, so that we can take the best candidates forward and help them find where they belong.

Advice and tips for making your CV stand out

Research shows that recruiters spend up to eight seconds looking at a CV before deciding if the CV is relevant for their position. Make sure your CV stands out by following these easy steps.

The best CVs are usually the simplest. Use a basic layout to convey clear information and highlight or list any key skills or experience - this helps us to spot your hard and soft skills, and makes it easier to see if you’re right for the role we’re recruiting for.

Using a templated approach will help recruiters to identify your relevant skill set more easily and you’ll only have to change a couple of points at the top of your CV to personalise it for each new role you apply for.

Start your CV with a striking personal statement that highlights who you are, what skills and experience you can offer (e.g. a team player, proactive, great communicator) and why you’re applying (your career goals). One or two short paragraphs will suffice.

Study the job specification for the role you’re applying for and choose up to five key skills you have that would be useful for this role. For instance, if the job calls for excellent communication skills, SQL experience and proficiency in Microsoft packages, include these to get the recruiter’s attention.

Add your most recent work experience. Highlight any achievements, any databases and software used and give examples/statistics where you can. If part of your role was to invoice customers, specify how many customers, whether this was per day/week/month and so on. Make sure your most recent employment sits at the top and then work back to your older positions at the bottom.
