We’re making it easier for small and medium businesses (SMEs) to partner with us, as well as creating opportunities for them to grow and build resilience across our supply chain.

We are also aligned with the UK Procurement Act 2023, ensuring our approach supports fair access, prompt payment and greater opportunity for SMEs across our supply chain. Small and medium-sized businesses are part of our ecosystem, playing a vital role in how we deliver for our clients and communities.

Small businesses are the backbone of the UK economy. Capita is committed to building a supply chain where SMEs can thrive — with the support, fair terms and opportunities to grow alongside us.

SMEs bring agility, innovation and specialist expertise. They are vital to the success of our clients, our communities and our supply chain.

Our SME Programme sets out how we partner with smaller suppliers — making it simpler to do business with Capita, fairer in how we contract and pay, and richer in the support and opportunities we offer to help them grow.

Here’s a snapshot of the scale and impact of SMEs across Capita.

Our approach

Our approach to working with small and medium-sized businesses is built on four enduring commitments:

Supporting the Procurement Act 2023

The UK Procurement Act 2023 is designed to make it easier for small and medium-sized businesses to win and deliver public sector contracts. As a major supplier to government, Capita actively supports the Act’s objectives across our supply chain.

We align our practices to the Act by:

  • designing proportionate procurement processes that reduce barriers to entry
  • providing earlier visibility of opportunities so SMEs can prepare and compete
  • ensuring prompt and transparent payment practices
  • supporting open, fair and accessible supplier engagement

Our approach helps create a more inclusive, competitive and resilient supply chain — benefiting SMEs, our clients and the wider economy.
