This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the women at Capita who turn ideas into better outcomes.
From applying AI to everyday challenges to redesigning services that are simpler, fairer and more accessible, our ‘fearless female innovators’ are improving experiences for colleagues, customers and citizens across our geographies and divisions.
We caught up with women from across Capita globally to hear what International Women’s Day and fearless innovation means to them.
Rachel Aves, Head of Programme & Project Management and Chair of Capita’s Gender Equality network said: “International Women’s Day is a moment to celebrate the achievements of women around the world, and at Capita. But it has always been more than a celebration. It began as a day of protest and collective action and it still exists because gender equality is far from being achieved.
At the current rate of progress, it will take around 134 years, roughly five generations, to reach full global gender parity, according to the World Economic Forum. That means that many of the women and girls in our lives today will never see true equality in their working lifetimes if we don’t accelerate change.
We also know that the impact of gender inequality isn’t felt evenly. Different identities, life stages, geographies and circumstances all shape how gender shows up at work and in society. That’s why, as Capita’s Gender Equality Network, our role is to use gender insight – data, voice and lived experience, to drive changes that create fair, inclusive and equitable working lives for every gender at Capita.”

Junior Operations Manager, Capita Experience in Bulgaria
My work is a balance of processes, numbers, and people, and I focus on creating an environment where colleagues feel supported and empowered, whether working from home or in the office.
Fearless innovation is part of my everyday mindset, challenging myself to think freely and act with purpose. Returning from maternity leave was a defining moment when I had to reimagine how I work and lead, and it inspired me to support other women navigating similar uncertainties.
To me, fearless innovation means thinking boldly (outside of the box), speaking honestly, and using emotional intelligence to improve our environment. Celebrating fearless female innovators matters because women regularly balance multiple roles while driving meaningful progress in their teams and communities.

A typical day involves working with clients, delivery teams and technology partners to translate emerging AI capabilities into practical, secure and ethical solutions that improve citizen and colleague experience.
For me, fearless innovation means having the trust and mandate to experiment, fail fast, pivot and learn - especially when working with technologies that few have deployed at scale. I’m inspired by the tangible impact AI can have on people’s everyday lives - particularly in public services where improved design can directly affect citizen outcomes.

My typical day involves checking in with my team, who are currently working on local and central government bids. I support the team by supporting their learning by giving them the space to keep up with the new products and partners that we need to help create solutions for our customers.
If we see fearless female innovators, we can aspire to be like them; we can be as fearless as they are. How many times have we seen someone doing something and thought, ‘I am going to have a go’ or ‘I’m going to try and do that thing that I have always wanted to do?’ Breaking barriers and having these women seen, highlighting their achievements, and ensuring they get the recognition that they deserve is important.

I design digital learning that supports colleagues working across complex council services. I might be mapping learning for a new contract, working directly with contact centre teams to understand real pressures, or experimenting with new tools that remove friction from their day.
To me, fearless innovation means questioning what feels familiar and improving it in thoughtful, people centred ways. Celebrating female innovators matters because it opens the door for different voices and perspectives. What keeps me going is seeing the impact on colleagues’ confidence and wellbeing.

One of the things I feel genuinely lucky about is that no two days are ever the same. The variety and unpredictability make the role both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I might start the morning reviewing emerging resilience threats across our geographies, to technology issues, cyber activity, weather events, or social challenges that could impact our colleagues or the services we deliver.
To me, fearless innovation is about challenging the status quo with intent, stepping forward, asking difficult questions, and redesigning processes or mindsets that no longer serve us. It’s not just about creativity; it’s about courage, persistence, and continuing despite setbacks. Innovation is a team effort. No one person has all the ideas and nor should they. I’m passionate about creating an environment where people feel comfortable challenging, suggesting improvements, and experimenting with new approaches.

Chief of Staff, AI&PO at Capita
My role sits at the intersection of strategy, delivery, and people. I work closely with the Chief AI & Product Officer and the leadership teams to turn ambition into action - making sure the right priorities are clear, decisions are well governed, and teams are set up to succeed. No two days are the same.
To me, fearless innovation is about being brave, curious, and willing to challenge the status quo. It’s choosing progress over perfection and learning over fear of failure. Celebrating fearless female innovators matters because women still face barriers, visible and invisible when stepping into bold, change driving roles. When we highlight women who are breaking boundaries, we don’t just celebrate success, we normalise ambition, confidence, and leadership for the next generation.

Assistant Manager at Capita Experience
My role focuses on driving continuous improvement, quality excellence, and digital adoption across teams. A typical day involves working closely with colleagues across different accounts to analyse processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement smarter, more efficient ways of working.
For me, fearless innovation means being open to questioning how things are done and having the confidence to try something new, even when there’s uncertainty or resistance. It’s about learning quickly, adapting, and not being afraid to fail. When women who drive change are recognised, it encourages others to believe that their ideas, voices, and perspectives are equally valuable and they too can step forward, share ideas and drive change with confidence.
