Capita celebrates key milestones under Defence Fire and Rescue Project contract

In its first year of operation Capita Fire and Rescue has:

• Successfully taken on full service delivery and transferred approximately 600 firefighters into the Capita workforce - despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic
• Completed the £5 million construction of a new, purpose-built accommodation block and fire station at its Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh
• Commissioned and installed new aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) rigs on the College’s incident ground, significantly enhancing specialist firefighter training
• Relocated centralised defence firefighter training at the Capita-operated College following the ending of training at Defence Fire Training and Development Centre (DFTDC) Manston
• Completed more than 5,000 Fire Risk Assessments for the MoD
• Responded to almost 3,000 incidents since April 2020
• Met or exceeded all key performance indicators for the Defence Fire and Rescue Project contract
• Begun the roll out of a fleet of state-of-the-art firefighting appliances

Throughout 2021, Capita Fire and Rescue will continue to procure and deliver new firefighting vehicles, including Oshkosh High Reach Extendable Turret (HRET) Strikers and Angloco Multi-Purpose Response Vehicles (MPRVs). So far 50 of these vehicles have been delivered to 11 sites, with a further 70 to be rolled out during 2021.

In addition, following its successful service delivery throughout 2020, Capita Fire and Rescue has now taken on fire and rescue service delivery at four additional MoD Royal Air Force (RAF) sites.

The new sites include the former Dambusters base and home of the Red Arrows, RAF Scampton, as well as RAF Cranwell, RAF High Wycombe and RAF Valley.
