Capita plc (Capita) today announces its Capita Public Service division has secured a one-year extension, worth £19m, to its contract to continue to deliver the Standards and Testing Agency’s (STA) test operations service.

In 2018, Capita was awarded a six-year contract to manage the administration, processing, marking and additional support for primary school national curriculum assessments in England. Capita’s role will remain the same under the terms of the contract extension, which will see it run the process up to the end of the 2025 test cycle.

As part of the contract, Capita manages the recruitment of markers and the printing, distribution and collation of over nine million test papers annually for key stage 1 and key stage 2 tests as well as the phonics screening check.

Capita has used its expertise in digital transformation by rolling out a new secure access portal, the Primary Assessment Gateway, which will be used by 16,000 primary schools and 4,000 test markers annually. The portal facilitates users to register pupils, order test materials, obtain results and update and download records in one place.

This contract enables more effective and integrated operational delivery by bringing together services that used to be delivered through a number of separate contracts.

Costi Karayannis, Managing Director of Capita Education & Learning, said: “We are delighted to be extending our contract with the Standards and Testing Agency. This contract extension is testament to the hard work and collaboration of teams in Capita and STA to prepare for and adapt test operations during an unprecedented time.

“Work is already underway to ensure the successful delivery of national curriculum assessments next summer, working with schools and makers to ensure the experience is positive for all involved. We look forward to delivering next year’s test cycle end-to-end.”

Notes to editors:

The total IFRS15 transaction price for the one-year extension is £19.1m. The total IFRS15 transaction price, including the original six-year contract, is £107.3m considered within the order book.

This new contract adds to Capita Public Service’s wins in 2021, including the recent Royal Navy and Royal Marines training contract award, entry to the Early Careers Framework, the Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust extension and the Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS) programme in Scotland win.
