Team Fisher, the Capita-led consortium including Raytheon UK, Elbit Systems UK, Fujitsu, the University of Lincoln and several smaller British suppliers, has started 2022 by meeting its latest milestone in its 12-year programme to transform and modernise the Royal Navy’s shore-based training across 16 sites.

Team Fisher will take on responsibility for the support and maintenance of the Royal Navy’s shore-based training simulators. These include operator training, command training and collective training for Trafalgar class and Vanguard class submarines and Mine Counter Measure Vessels.

As part of this milestone Elbit Systems UK will be responsible for modernising and managing the synthetic training systems used at the training sites.

The Capita-led consortium has made strong progress since taking over the contract in April 2021 to deliver and facilitate training for service personnel.

Despite the pressures of the pandemic, Team Fisher has continued to deliver training smoothly while meeting all key contract milestones, such as taking on the running of the Royal Navy’s Future Training Unit.

Team Fisher’s approach is making learning more personalised for service personnel, which aligns with the Royal Navy’s wider transformation agenda to make training more flexible and efficient and to minimise time spent away from the front line.

As the service is modernised, it will provide the Royal Navy with qualified and more motivated and experienced personnel who are equipped with the skills and expertise needed to deal better with the challenges of the future.

David Hook, managing director of Capita Defence Training, said : “We are proud of the significant progress we have made in enabling the Royal Navy to transform their shore-based training and to mark the start of 2022 with this milestone.

“Over the next 12 years, we will work with our partners and the Royal Navy to continue to modernise and improve the service to enable Navy personnel to fulfil their potential. Taking over the running of training simulators is a key step in this programme.”

Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK said : “Elbit Systems UK is delighted to have hit this milestone as part of the wider delivery of modernised training to the Royal Navy, through Team Fisher. We will continue to maintain and develop the existing synthetic training capabilities and deploy new technologies to ensure the best possible support to achieving operational readiness for Royal Navy personnel.”
