In a hands-on workshop at the Fire Service College, Capita’s award-winning learning development team partnered with Lloyds to deliver a dynamic filmmaking experience that exemplified the principles of rapid scalable learning. The aim was to stretch creative boundaries, build editorial confidence, and foster a collaborative production culture that could scale across future projects.

Challenge

Lloyd’s internal film team wanted to move beyond static, talking-head formats and develop new creative and technical capabilities. The challenge was to simulate a real-world shoot—complete with time pressure, editorial planning, and kit selection—while maintaining a learning environment that encouraged experimentation and growth.

Approach

The teams toured the Fire Service College in a minibus, hopping in and out to capture footage on the move. Roles rotated—from camera operators to directors and behind-the-scenes documentarians—giving participants exposure to the full production lifecycle. A loose script and schedule added just enough pressure to simulate a live shoot, encouraging fast thinking and adaptability.

Key activities

  • Technical exploration: Kit setup was driven by scene requirements, sparking conversations around gimbals, monopods, and framing techniques.
  • Editorial planning: With only a lunchtime briefing, participants had to storyboard and sequence shots to tell a coherent story of the fire plant tour.
  • Creative collaboration: Respect and trust flourished between Capita and Lloyd’s, with team members looking to each other for inspiration and guidance.

Impact

The experience transformed how Lloyd’s approached filmmaking. The team returned with fresh perspectives and new skills, ready to apply what they’d learned to internal projects. Capita became a trusted creative partner, seamlessly integrating into Lloyd’s production workflows.

“It wasn’t just about the kit—it was about thinking editorially, planning shots, and telling a story under pressure.”

“The respect between Capita and Lloyd’s was palpable. Everyone brought something different, and we learned from each other.”

“Since that day, we’ve delivered four or five projects together. Every single one has been a success.”

Outcome

The collaboration proved that a blended team—internal and external—could deliver high-quality, scalable content. Lloyd’s retained and grew its internal capability while unlocking new creative potential through partnership.
