Capita has appointed a global technology business leader as its new executive officer for government services.
Andy Start, who joins Capita in August, will sit on the executive committee and report to chief executive Jon Lewis.
Andy has spent the last 20 years at senior leadership level in FTSE and S&P500 international technology businesses. He ran the military space business for Airbus, was managing director of BAE Systems Avionics, and worked at a senior level at Harris Corporation, the American company specialising in tactical and public safety communications and IT systems.
Most recently, he was president of Global Government at FTSE-listed Inmarsat, the world’s leading mobile satellite services operator.
Andy has spent the last year on sabbatical as one of two industry attendees at the Royal College of Defence Studies, the UK government’s most senior strategy programme for business, government and military leaders.
Patrick Elliott, who has been at Capita for six years and been interim executive officer for government services for the last eight months, will continue to work in the division.
Jon Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, Capita, said: "I am delighted to welcome Andy to Capita and look forward to working with him. His appointment reflects our commitment to ensuring our leadership team has the depth of experience needed to help us achieve long-term growth. Andy brings with him a wealth of international experience over the last 20 years in leadership, sales and transformation in leading tech-based businesses. He also has enormous experience of working with and for government, both in the UK and abroad.
"Government Services is a central part of the Capita operation. Andy’s expertise will play a crucial role in our transformation as a company with global ambitions, providing our government clients with the technologies and digital capabilities they need to serve their customers. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Patrick Elliott, who took on the executive officer role on an interim basis for the last eight months. He has made an invaluable contribution, not only to our partnership with government clients, but to Capita as a whole – and will continue to play a pivotal part in the Government Services team."
Andy Start said: “I am really pleased to be joining Capita to lead its government business. It is a remarkable business which makes a huge contribution to UK society, working across the full spectrum of the public sector to help deliver essential services to millions.
“I’m excited about Capita’s potential to make an even bigger difference – by harnessing its unique combination of software, digital transformation skills and talented people to help government deliver better people-centric services.”
Government Services, one of Capita’s six divisions, employs more than 8,000 people and delivers technology-enabled business services for a broad range of central government, local authority, healthcare and other public sector clients.
