Team Fisher, the Capita-led consortium including Raytheon UK, Elbit Systems UK, Fujitsu, the University of Lincoln and several smaller British suppliers, has achieved a strong first year of delivery and have made progress in modernising and transforming the Royal Navy and Royal Marines’ shore-based training.

On 1 April 2021, Team Fisher took on responsibility for running shore-based training and despite the pressures of the pandemic, the consortium has continued to deliver services smoothly while meeting all key contract milestones, such as taking on the running of the Royal Navy’s Future Training Unit and taking on support and maintenance for the Royal Navy’s simulators.

Coinciding with the first year of delivering the contract, Team Fisher has taken on responsibility for providing the Warfare Signature Database (WSD).

The WSD is the UK’s repository for warfare signature information and the modelling and information within it is used to support training in the consortium’s shore-based training simulators. Team Fisher will now be responsible for updating the database, distributing models to simulation platforms and other Royal Navy users and resolving any issues.

Team Fisher’s approach is making learning more personalised for service personnel, which aligns with the Royal Navy’s wider transformation agenda to make training more flexible and efficient and to minimise time spent away from the front line.

As the service is modernised, it will provide the Royal Navy with qualified and more motivated, confident and experienced personnel who are equipped with the skills and expertise needed to deal better with the challenges of the future.

David Hook, Managing Director of Capita Defence Training, said: “We are proud of the strong start and progress we have made since taking over the running of the contract. We have met every milestone over the last year, including most recently taking on responsibility for the Warfare Signature Database, and that is testament to the strength of the Team Fisher consortium and very strong collaborative approach with the Royal Navy.

"Over the next 11 years, we will work with our partners and the Royal Navy to continue to modernise and improve the service to enable Navy personnel to fulfil their potential and deliver against our purpose of “Better trained people to the front line, faster.”

Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK, commented: “This milestone is a testament to the determination of Team Fisher to deliver strong progress and modernisation for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. We are looking forward to making training more agile in order to meet the Royal Navy’s transformation agenda.”

Colonel Aaron Fisher, Commandant Training Management Group, commented: “Team Fisher, as our strategic partner, has made an impressive start in our journey to transform Royal Navy Individual Training. They have successfully assumed responsibility for training across numerous training establishments demonstrating the vision and commitment to truly modernise Royal Navy training.”
